The mop itself doesn’t feel the sturdiest, and we felt this performed better on low-level dust and dirt than anything too high octane. And the small bucket doesn’t feel heavy for taking up and down stairs. Having said this, we loved that there’s a scraper on the side of the bucket for cleaning the mop head. We have marked this as adjustable height, but to adjust it involves unscrewing the handle and taking sections out, so it’s not something you’re going to want to do on the regular. And you have to fill the bucket to the top to be able to fully submerge your mop. But we did find it a touch fiddly to angle the mop to get it in the slots in the bucket. This meant we didn’t have an excess of water slopped across the floor. The rectangular bucket has one side for soaking the flat-head mop and another for wringing out. However, they’ve had quite the makeover and shouldn’t be overlooked, as they’re durable and can do some serious heavy lifting in the cleaning department. Of course, the traditional mop – the stringy ones that come with a bucket and a disposal head – are still around too. The heads on these tend to be microfibre, and rectangular, and you can ditch your bucket entirely which makes them an excellent choice if you’re limited on space. Then you push it round, spraying out solution as and when you need it. Designed with a trigger in the handle, and you can fill a reservoir with water and a dash of cleaning solution. They are not heavy-duty, though, so couldn’t take on the heft of, say, dried-on Weetabix. These pads can be removed and washed, and are great for a quick swish around and getting into corners. There’s the option of a flat mop to consider – these are often rectangular and have a removable microfibre pad attached to the head. When it comes to choosing the right floor mop for your own cleaning arsenal, you’ll want to think about what it is that you’re trying to do. Is there anything more deeply satisfying than having sparkling clean surfaces? And, whether you have hardwood floors, vinyl, tiles or laminate at home, thanks to the brilliance of modern mops, it’s never been easier to achieve these squeaky clean results.
